The University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) is searching for a Research Associate Professor in the field of energy storage materials and systems. The primary activity of the appointee will be to conduct academic research in association with Shirley Meng, Professor of Molecular Engineering and Chief Scientist for Argonne Collaborative Center for Energy Storage Science (ACCESS) at Argonne National Laboratory.
The Research Associate Professor will conduct research in the areas of electrode materials (including Mn/Ni-rich layered, spinel structure) synthesis through solid-state, co-precipitation, and hydro-thermal methods; materials degradation diagnosis through multiple advanced characterizations such as cryo-TEM, STEM/EELS, Plasma FIB, etc.; and apply first-principles calculations to the discovery and design of functional materials for energy storage. Thus, we especially welcome applicants with expertise in research, development and manufacturing for electrochemical energy storage and conversion technologies.
The successful candidate will oversee the development, implementation and progress of multiple research projects and collaborate with other research laboratories as necessary; seek and secure funding for the research projects; oversee the operations of the research laboratory; develop, monitor, and control a research budget; establish goals, operating procedures, practices, and guidelines; and investigate, modify and apply new procedures and techniques.
Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to the education mission, including teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate courses in thermodynamics, electrochemistry, or advanced characterizations.
Applicants must have completed postdoctoral training in materials science and engineering or a related field prior to the start of employment.
