The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applicants for one tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Responsibilities include teaching engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research in engineering, developing externally funded research programs, and producing archival publications in leading scholarly journals. It is expected that the candidate will develop graduate courses in their areas of research to complement the departmental growth and will contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. A PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering or a related field is required at time of the appointment.
Primary consideration will be given to those with demonstrated capabilities and background in:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) with applications in scientific computing, computational engineering, robotics, or smart manufacturing
- Energy storage
The Tickle College of Engineering is undergoing a period of substantial growth in both physical infrastructure and research expenditures as it seeks to become a Top 25 ranked public institution. The college presently has seven departments with 186 faculty members, 3,393 undergraduates and 1,155 graduate students. The department currently has 59 faculty members and enrolls some 1,331 undergraduate and 182 graduate students. Research expenditures in the department are currently at $15M per year. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at UTK and the surrounding region including University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), Oak Ridge National Lab, AEDC, AMDEC, and NASA-Marshall.
